- Process daily orders from vendors, invoices, and requisitions accurately and efficiently. This includes the ability to inspect items for damage, past expiration dates, and completeness (and to reject items as deemed appropriate) as well as verify freight bills from vendors and report any discrepancies to Manager.
- Stock dry food, frozen foods, paper products, and other items in an organized manner. This includes the ability to date all received items and rotate stock using First In First Out method.
- Maintain par levels of inventory in work areas. This includes the ability to recommend reorder quantities or times for stock items and adequately stock nourishment rooms daily.
- Put away and deliver stock in a timely manner.
- Take inventory and assist in reconciling any stock shortages.
- Take and record food temperatures accurately.
- Clean equipment and work area.
- Deliver floor stock items as ordered by outside departments.
- Minimum of one year food service experience
- Minimum of one year stocking experience, including experience with first in first out rotation practices
- Demonstrated understanding of basic food safety requirements
- Experience performing physical job tasks safely. This includes but is not limited to lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, standing (up to 8 hours), and pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds.
- Demonstrate excellent communication by having the ability to read English with comprehension, listen effectively, speak and write clearly, and accurately follow written instructions, including job routines, recipes, directions, and precautions on product labels.
- Demonstrate ability to work well independently with minimal guidance and to work well with others as part of a team.
- Must be able to transport stock utilizing two and four wheel carts or pallet trucks.
- Ability to perform excellent customer service. This includes but is not limited to demonstrating respect for coworkers, working effectively on a team as well as working independently with minimal guidance to ensure food items are served to patients as per established service and quality standards.
- Ability to multitask and work at a fast pace.
- Ability to be flexible with work schedules, job tasks, and job changes.
- Excellent attendance record.
Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities such as, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background ScreeningMichigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
